Hey Norton! Ken Norton discusses daylight savings and idiocy + assorted lifehacks
Presumably you've heard about plans to change Daylight Savings Time to reduce energy costs. A sort of Federally-mandated time shifting where Daylight Savings Time would begin three weeks earlier and end one week later. The idea being that by placing more of our "daytime" during daylight/sunny hours, energy consumption will be reduced as we'd reduce use of lights/appliances/etc. due to shifted daytime/bedtimes.
In fact - I know you want the facts - the US Dept. of Transportation found that national electricity costs could be reduced by ~ 1% for each day Daylight Savings Time is in effect. In the aggregate, that means big money and reduced oil dependency. More info here.
Relating this to the Feed of the Day - Hey Norton! - Ken Norton's blog - is easy. His most recent post sheds light on some idiotic reasons given for opposing the proposed changes to Daylight Savings. Hint: read the bit about the poor, confused cows. He also links to a CNN article about the story, which includes a great quote from Rep. Edward Markey (D-Massachusetts):
The beauty of daylight-saving time is that it just makes everyone feel sunnier."
And we could all benefit from sunnier dispositions. ; )
Ken, currently VP of products at JotSpot,  is an Internet veteran, with stints at Yahoo!, NBCi, Snap, and CNET. His blog covers a range of stuff, including:
current events (somewhat infrequent)
lifehacks - e.g. managing your magazine subscriptions
job related stuff - e.g. How to hire a product manager
and a rather telling story about an experience about Enron.
Happy reading.

Bonus:Yesterday we posted a few choice images from Flickr. We're returning with one, taken during the President Bush's recent press conference announcing US Circuit Court Judge John Roberts as his Supreme Court nominee to replace the retiring Sandra Day O'Connor.
Roberts' son gets jiggy (from AP). more...
