FlickrBlog: Zany pictures from everyone and anyone. Tags too.
What do you get when you add digital photography + online photo sharing + tagging + lots and lots of uninhibited people? The answer is . . . probably not what you're thinking. I'm not talking about those inhibitions, instead I'm talking about one of the most successful Web 2.0 phenomena . . .
. . . Flickr. Where you find great stuff like this:
Jumping dog by Planero.
Recently snatched up by Yahoo!, Flickr is one of the best combinations of Web 2.0 technologies, including things like: photo sharing, tag-driven categorization/search, and RSS to boot. Granted, there are some who haven't heard of Flickr - welcome to the Internet and Web 2.0 in particular - but have you really given it a closer look?
A few of the things you can do with Flickr:
Share photos. You can store them, but the "real value" is in the sharing. As I once heard, "it's the shares that make the difference."
Tag photos with user-determined keywords (social tagging).
Create group photoblogs.
Search for photos, esp. related to your or other people's tags (and related tags).
Subscribe to tags and individual/group photostreams.
For example, say you were curious what people had posted about Lance Armstrong. Begin with a tag search on "lancearmstrong" and you'll find images form numerous people who've tagged their images using that keyword. You'll also find related tags, including: armstrong and livestrong. You can subscribe to this tag search or subscribe to an individual user's photostream.
Lance Armstrong: First loop of the final stage (by Spider Man).
Very cool.
About the Feed of the Day, we've chosen FlickrBlog to receive the honored spot. Here you can learn more about what they're up to, advanced tips/tricks, and some of the popular/favorite photos.
